Someone fly-tips in England every 30 seconds, which equates to over 107,000 incidents in a month (England 2007/08)
Do you know the difference between littering and fly-tipping?
Both local authorities and ourselves have powers to tackle fly-tipping.
It is widely recognised that fly-tipping can be best combated through partnerships between local authorities, other enforcement agencies and the Environment Agency.
The Environment Agency and Local Government Association (LGA) have drawn up some guidelines on who can help you in the event of a fly-tipping incident. The LGA is a body that represents all Local Authorities in England and Wales. Many Local authorities have built on this guidance and formulated local area agreements with the Environment Agency in a bid to tackle fly-tipping. It is advisable for you to contact your local authority to ask about any local area agreements.
The LGA and Environment Agency guidelines on fly-tipping are referred to as PROTOCOL 6. Click the links below to view a summary of the protocol, or the full version.
